"Shomething Shlight" began as a phrase amongst friends and members of the band "Urban Complex." However, it quickly grew into a saying amongst our artist community to describe amazing local events and experiences. The conversation eventually shifted to thinking about more ways to provide opportunities for artists, but also provide an opportunity for the community to engage with the artists and art. The Shomething Shlight Music & Art Festival was created as a way for "Urban Complex" and our artist community to share art and give back directly to the communities in which we do our work. The first Shomething Shlight Music & Art Festival was held at Anacostia Park in Washington, DC in 2020, and the second will be held at KC's Music Alley in Fredericksburg, VA. The Shomething Shlight Music & Art Festival team looks forwards to forming lasting connections and interfacing with the community regularly. As the Shomething Shlight Music & Art Festival has grown, it has also become more focused in its mission to impact arts and music education in the local community. So the Shomething Shlight Music & Art Festival will donate a portion of proceeds to local charities, non-profits, and/or organizations that directly support our ideals of music and art education access and resources for all students.
